The aster is a daisylike perennial with starry-shaped flower heads. It can bring delightful colour to the garden in late summer and autumn when many other blooms may be fading. The height of the plant’s ranges from 8 inches to 8 feet, depending on the type. The good news is that you can find an aster for almost any garden and they have many uses, such as in borders, rock gardens, or wildflower gardens. This flower will attract butterflies to your garden and it is wise to choose disease-resistant varieties as asters can be susceptible to pests as well as leaf spots and powdery mildew. Make sure you stake the taller varieties to keep them upright and cut them back in the winter month after the foliage has died.
